David and I just spent a wonderful ten days in beautiful Oahu! We had the best time and thoroughly enjoyed every single second together. We did a little bit of everything including: snorkeling at Hanauma Bay, hiking Diamond Head, going on a helicopter tour of the island, exploring and photographing the island, going to a luau, lounging on the beach, and eating lots and lots of yummy food and drinking lots of tasty drinks (especially the "Lava Flow"...mmmm).
It was terribly hard to say goodbye to David and I hated watching him leave but the trip was entirely worth it and we're down to only about a month until he's home "for good" for awhile (of course with a few short outings here and there). It will be SO nice to have him home for longer than two weeks at a time :)
Currently David is participating in RIMPAC (the Rim of the Pacific Exercise). This multi-national exercise involves around twenty-thousand sailors and marines from fourteen nations. 34 ships, 5 submarines, over 100 aircraft will work together to increase the tactical proficiency of participating units in a wide array of maritime operations by enhancing military-to-military relations and interoperability. During the exercise, participating units will conduct gunnery, missile, anti-submarine, and air defense exercises, as well as maritime interdiction and vessel boardings, explosive ordnance disposal, diving and salvage operations, mine clearance operations, and an amphibious landing (www.c3f.navy.mil).
David is juggling RIMPAC with studying and preparing for his upcoming SWO Board set to take place (hopefully) sometime this week. This is a HUGE deal and something he has worked this last year and a half towards. The board consists of the CO, XO, and all department heads sitting on one side of a table with David on the other and for one hour, they fire all sorts of questions at him. I have no doubt David will knock this one out of the park just like he does everything he is handed but please keep him in your thoughts as his schedule is packed and stress level is high. As soon as I hear from him, I will be sure to update you and let you know how it went. Hopefully by sometime this week he'll be sporting this awesome new pin on his uniform!!
Lots of love to everyone, enjoy the pics!
Lisa
